Around 150 Thai and foreign volunteer scuba divers were involved in the Ocean cleanup project at Racha Noi Island in Phuket. Some of the volunteers worked on the beach, while others collected rubbish from the sea. The amount of waste collected reached 506 kilograms.
Racha Noi Island is a popular tourist destination in Phuket. It has stunning beaches and oceans. As the number of tourists increases, so does the garbage, affecting the ecosystem and the sea creatures' habitat. To prevent the situation getting any worse, the local government and private sector saw the need for the cleanup in order to build a sustainable tourism industry. Some of the garbage collected will be incinerated, while some that can be recycled will be used for various purposes.
