The canal road near Bangkok’s Grand Palace is already lined with thousands of people from all over the world, queuing to enter the areas reserved for watching the royal funeral procession of the late king Bhumibol Adulyadej. The gates are expected to open at 5am on October 25th. Many have traveled long distances to witness the event. This couple, Mr. Don Buckter and Mrs. Pornvilai, have come from San Francisco in the US.
[Soundbite] “I find myself with the pleasure of explaining to my friends in America about the King”
Pornvilai said she didn’t mind waiting days and nights on the roadside since it doesn’t compare to all the work the king did for his people. The line is now over 1 km. long. It rained throughout the night but even the bad weather couldn’t stop people from filling the pavements.
