With little improvement in the flood situation in Thailand’s Northern Province of Pichit, at the weekend the folks of Pho Prathap Chang district decided to make the best of it.
They organized a water sport events in their submerged rice fields. The competitions included boat races and sea boxing. Plastic dinghies, normally used to get around during the flood season, were adapted for the events. Sea boxing, an ancient sport popular among the locals, attracted men of all ages to take part.
The event raised big smiles and laughter from spectators and participants alike in a wonderful distraction from the 3 month long effort of dealing with the floods.
